quilt blocks for a cure

These are headed to Dana, at Old Red Barn, who is doing a quilt for the cure. I hope these work for her.

Week 3 - Finish 3

I love this quilt. It's hard to see, because it was such a dark day I asked Jerry to stand out on the front porch with it.

One of the blogs I follow suggested doing one 9 patch per day. Instead, I cut and kept 2.5 inch squares in sets next to my machine. I'd run them through between other things. And, I ended up with enough 30s to do this quilt. I don't know why...but I just love it's simplicity.

Dexter's hobby

Well, this cute little cat adopted us early in the Fall. We expected her, since she is so friendly and so welcoming of human contact, to make her way back to her family. We're convinced now we are her family. We believe her breed is a Norweigan Forest Cat, so we call her "Weegie". Since she has joined us she spends all her time looking in our windows and our dog (who is quite intolerant of this moving fluffy thing) spends all his time looking out, trying to stare her down. At least now he has a hobby. We can't let them be together - he lunges at her immediately. Lizzie has some luck with each of them at arm's length, but Jerry's efforts resulted in a near nip. My mother thinks they'll get used to each other - I think my mother is an optomist. But, here is a photo of how they spend most of their free time.

Haircuts and silliness

Finally got the little sisters in for much needed haircuts. Caroline opted for something "medium" but thankfully Sarah was okay with something shorter.

The year of finishes

Okay, although I shouldn't I did make new year's resolutions. I'm going to finish projects! So, here are two that I did. Both were quilts I started quilting and either the backing or the tension was a mess, so I had to take them out.

The one is a row quilt from Greenbaum's on-line site. I used a different applique than they did - since I used 30s fabric I opted for Sunbonnet Sue. Later wished I have put in one Overall Sam, but not worth trying to take it all out. I'll probably keep it. Shawn thinks it would look good on a bed. There are a couple of more rows below these pictures.

The other is a Yellow Brick Road I did in class with our quilt group, I'm guessing about 7 years ago. Argh - too long. But, I'm planning to donate it...it's pretty gender neutral and would probably serve a child up to 7 years or so.

13! Really?

Yes, Lizzie is officially a teenager. It all happens so quickly. (And, yes, in the picture her hand is there as a visual cue to her sister, Sarah, that it is not okay to stick your hand in the cake).

Finished Chirstmas BOM...

..so it could be on the bed by Christmas. This is the Aubrey Rose BOM from Cotton Patch several (yes, several!) years ago that I finally got quilted. Truthfully, this is a landmark quilt for me - the first really large one I've successfully quilted on my frame. Perhaps this is a sign of what I can get done in the next year...
