Worked ilke a charm

I ordered this iron-on from an ebay seller and wasn't sure what to expect - isn't it cute?

Gingerbread houses

A fun day of making gingerbread houses with Grandma...

Happy Happy Birthday!

Better than having a birthday? Having a birthday close to someone else so there is double the fun (but only one cake!).

Ballet Folklorico

Logan's quilts

Shannon did an awesome job on the ABC. I was disappointed in my quilting on the smaller, there were too many skips. But I do think they're cute, don't you?

Just one picture - trick or treat

Okay, of the 7 or so pics, this is the best - I swear. I can't imagine how families of 5 kids get them all to look up and smile at the same time. Maybe that's why they have that commercial where the woman is cropping all the pics. Anyway, they are darling, but unwilling to stand still.

Yarn Eye Candy

Yarn Shop at the Mission Mill in Salem. Makes you want to grab needles, doesn't it?

Mom's quilt pattern

My mother bought this pattern, so I took pics of the two different ways they were displaying it. What a difference color makes!

New bag

I found these two patterns, both by a local artist. The smaller is a make-up bag (the design was meant to carry quilting supplies, like rotary cutter and scissors) with a vinyl window. I hadn't ever used vinyl before, but it wasn't as bad as I thought. Of course you have to avoid an iron, but otherwise was pretty much like using a fiber.

The bag is fun - snap closure. It was easy too...maybe I'll need another sometime.

School Starts

First day. Yes, before you ask, this is the best of the series of pictures.

Do you see stars?

Honestly.

It's like the See's Candy truck (stay with me)...you know how you see one and think "If I were ever stuck in there, I'd just eat my way out!". Yeah, I thought instead of cleaning my sewing room, I'd just sew my way out. So I found this box of 6" squares my mom got for Lizzie from a local quilt shop. They have been stashed forever.

I thought, "Well, let's try something new"...and did these friendship stars with 4 patch centers. But, when I put it together it seems like the stars are lost to the pinwheels...this is 5x5 and the blocks are 4" finished, so it will be much bigger.

Is it like that picture where some people see the profile of an old woman and others see a young woman looking away?

What do you think? Do you see stars?

A little project

I've started working on a little project for someone. The total view is a surprise (well, face it, even to me...) but this block is called...

FIREFLY. Yep, Firefly.

I'm sure the person who receives this will enjoy that fact.

painting

boy, did we need a new color. When we bought the house (yes, 7 plus years ago) it was a silvery color..and of course we promised to "fix that' right away. Well, here we are. It looks so different, and just love it. Of course, Sarah helps.

Schnibbles

Here is the one for the Moda contest - I used "Verna". I'm planning to give it as a baby quilt (for a girl) - her parents were in Hawaii...

I need to fix two spots, but I like it. It's the "Rated X" quilt - you definitely need a design board or a floor you can lay it out on.

Swap quilt

This is a "swap" block quilt I put the border on today. The border is 9 patches from the 9 patch project - I thought it might be a little too busy, but I like it.

Canoes

We've discovered something C and S love to do...
particularly Sarah...canoeing! May have to add
this to our trailer needs when we get it done.

Oh, Nicola!

I'm sure this product was intended for her - do you know they make perfume that smells like PlayDoh? Really, 'cause I can't imagine there are others...boy, does this make me miss you!

All those 9 patches

Okay, so now I've made all those mixed nine patches - what to do?

I saw this quilt (or something similar) in an antique mall and it really struck me. So, I thought I'd try it (Yes, as a side note I really need to clean up my sewing room so I can have a design wall that isn't just an uncluttered wall and blue painter's tape)

What do you think? I think I'm really going to like it. It's going to be 9x11...so far already 9x4 with little effort.

Mult Falls

Lovely day, really busy. But, was able to snap this picture before people stepped in front. Little did I know, 25 years ago exactly and walked by this spot all the time, that this is what the future would hold. Quite blessed.

New bag and 9 patch update

Nine patches - 201 unmatched 9 patch blocks in 30s repros. Now working on matched 9 patches for a different project - still convinced I can make all the 30s fabric disappear by the August.

Lizzie picked this bag pattern while on the Sew Oregon shop hop. The shop in Independence had it kitted in fabrics she loved. It's the Market Bag by Susan Rose. Fairly easy to put together (probably would take 1.5 hours total to do start to finish if that was your focus), but it's not like an Amy Butler pattern with clear step-by-step instructions. It assumes a little big of bag making experience. But...oh, my. I bought (a while back) one of the grommet tools - holy cannoli! Jerry had to squeeze really hard just to get it to work - not for the light muscled! But, I like the bag - if I can find my pattern, there might be a wallet to match.

Status update - June 16

1. 11,000 plus steps today (yeah).
2. 25 blocks done (23 short of today's target, but making progress).
3. Read chapter 5 of Don Quixote. (again, close to target, perhaps I'll get the 6th done before bed).

All in all, making progress.

June 14

As of yesterday,

1. 8500 steps (boo!)
2. 18 blocks done (the quilt along is for a block a day, so 14. But, I want to do about triple, so I'm a little behind).
3. Finished two chapters of Don Quixote. He's already in his armour...searching for someone to knight him. Perhaps that's the lesson of the day - go out and find someone to give you the power to do what you know in your heart you should be doing.

Tonight is quilt group - yeah!

Plans for Summer

Gotta have a goal, right?

1. Use up all 30s reproduction fabric. (This might sound easier than it will be)

2. Starting reading the list here: http://www.adherents.com/people/100_novel.html of the 100 greatest novels of all time. Going to start at the top: Don Quixote.

3. 10,000 + steps per day. Today, so far, 7481. Time to get walking.

Kindergarten Graduation

Almost impossible to believe, but Caroline graduated this last week...off to first grade!

Crater Lake

Yes, this is the view from our window (which is why it's through the screen) at Crater Lake...amazing. This was the view from both the window seat and (wait for it) the claw foot tub!
Ahhhhh...

Ag Fest

Caroline was determined we were going to Ag Fest here. Cute, huh?
