It's July

Okay, not really. But for the Block Central BOM I'm just now getting to the end of July. August is nearly done, but giving me fits so I'll try it again tomorrow. I'd like to at least make it to Fall, since it's really feeling that way here in Oregon. The leaves are changing and it's getting cool in the mornings.

Quiltopia continued

I realized I made reference to a quilt in an earlier post that I didn't put up the picture of. So, here it is.

Greenbaum's BOM

Here is my October. It's fun - Greenbaum's gives you one fabric (in this it's the orange next to the background) and a pattern. You take your own fabric to add and complete the block. Eveyone who completes one gets the next one free. Greenbaum's hangs them for the first week of the month, and people vote on their favorite (I actually think it's less favorite block than favorite person, but that's okay) and that person gets a fabulous prize - a gift certificate to the shop. Others can win smaller certificates by being the staff favorite. Fun, huh?

I found the green with multi-dot (toward the center) and since they let us know all the blocks will have bright brights, I thought it would be a great way to use them.

Two more from Quiltopia

Last two. I'm sorry the picture of the three-quilt wall hanging is a bit blurry, but still worth the post. These were made individually and hang together. There was several of this concept at Sisters this year, and I really like it and would like to try it sometime.

Quiltopia!

This weekend in Salem is Quiltopia, which is really a series of events but today I took in the quilt show. Here are some of the quilts that really struck me. I definitely have my heart set on trying the (close to) postage stamp with the black squares with applique. Great use of small, extra pieces.
By the way (spoiler alert), Sylvia's version of the Mystery Quilt at Greenbaum's is in there - looks totally different than those produced by my mom and I.
And, I always love Courthouse Steps, so I had to throw one in here for personal motivation. I just have to do a scrappy CS.

Mary, Mary, Mary

So, I came home from quilt retreat with a new friend, Mary. Oh, it's a long story.

First, you have to envision two very funny women who are friends (this theory will be tested, but wait) with Mary, a woman who was unfortunate enough to choose an East coast vacation over their standard quilt retreat. So, these "friends" decided to take Mary with them anyway, by placing her picture on a paper plate and adding a large popsicle stick. Anyway, after several hilarious pictures of Mary in familiar, and hopefully unfamiliar, places...Friend 1 (let's call her Judy) announced that she was convinced that friend 2 (let's call her Darlene) would be woefully unable to finish her project (30 blocks) during retreat time (in all fairness, it was said that after 24 hours at retreat she'd completed 3 blocks, so the odds were in Judy's favor). Judy leaped up and grabbed a pad of paper announcing a contest to see who could estimate Darlene's completion rate by the end of the weekend. Darlene was a very good sport and worked her darnedest...and completed all 30, which was my bet. The prize? Mary. Mary on a stick. So, home with me she came, with a promise to take good care of her. I hope she like's plants, since I had to put her there for the time being...my daughter, Sarah, announced she was "beautiful" and wanted to carry her everywhere.

So, I'll try to pull a Hitchcock and include her in future posts. Until then, I'll just keep her safe. Maybe she'd rather live in the sewing room????
